Network organization of the circadian clock in Drosophila melanogaster

Abstract

This project will study the circadian clock of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster using original approaches. We will develop novel markers of neuronal activity and we will test them across the 24h combining biochemical, microscopy and in vivo assays. We envisage that our work will provide a new framework for a fuller comprehension of the biology of the circadian clock in Drosophila.

Description We have developed a technique that has helped us look more closely at how clock neurons in the fly brain take turns being active at different times during the 24-hour cycle.
Exploitation Route Our technique is applicable to any cells within the fly brain and could potentially be adapted for use in other animal models.
