Application of computational chemistry to forensic detection

Abstract

This project will explore the notion of using computational prowess to direct avenues of work in this area and has immense untapped potential. The project will work very closely with CAST, Home Office Science - Centre for Applied Science and Technology). Two main areas will be investigated:

Blood analysis. The need to identify blood directly at scene without the use of chemical sprays (vide infra) is a key driver for this project.

Solvent effects in development reagents for fingerprinting and re-formulating some print development reagents (due to environmental concerns) and to understand the fundamental interactions that go on in the development process.
