Abstract
This project concerns the biophysics of interactions between soil bacteria and their symbiotic partners, plant roots and soil algae.
The research will study the migration of chemotactic bacteria to symbiotic partners in porous media and flowing environments within photobioreactors.
This behaviour will be quantified experimentally, and modelled theoretically and computationally. The research will elucidate the role of chemotactic
swimming and fluid flow in establishing and maintaining microbial symbioses, which is important for the improvement of agricultural and environmental biotechnologies.
