Using human IPS cells to identify genetic variants that inluence cellular differentiation

Abstract
The project will contribute to the Wellcome Trust/MRC-funded Human Pluripotent Stem Call initiative which is using human iPS cells from healthy individuals to understand the genetic basis of inter-individual variability of cellular functions. By applying cell-based assays to distinguish causative from correlative genetic variants in healthy and diseased individuals we aim to develop an in vitro approach to precision medicine.

| Results and Impact | Organised a series of stem cell embroidery workshops called "Stitch and Stem". Images of stem cells and stem cell structures which have been generated by researchers in our department are used as embroidery templates and attendees are taught about stem cells while learning a transferrable skill. |
