Abstract

Project concerned with investigating the feasibility and potential performance of a quadrupole mass spectrometer driven with a digital EC signal as described by Ernst Sheretov. Modelling of the stability diagrams and potential transmission for the digital signals will be performed, as well as the modelling of phase space optimisation for ions entering the device. The impact of the quality of the signal - eg noise, rise times, ripples - on the performance of the signal will be investigated, and experimental work to determine the best achievable signal will be undertaken. If possible, design and construction of a prototype will take place.
