Dementia, Sexuality and the Brain

This CASE studentship will adopt a relational sociological approach to examine how changes in the sexual lives of people with dementia (PWD) are negotiated in the context of care relationships, and whether understandings of the brain figure in navigating these changes. The project will use creative qualitative research methods. It will help dementia-related community organisations, like Manchester Carers Forum to:

1. Support carers and people living with dementia during a sensitive and challenging period of change relating to their personal and intimate lives;
2. Improve peer mentors' and 'dementia friends'' understandings of the changes in sexual life which carers and PWD might experience.
