High-speed nanophotonic lasers and photonic integration.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Electronic and Electrical Engineering

Abstract

The student is expected to study ultrafast laser pulse generation using nanoscale photonic devices. During the first year, he has proposed to use the optical frequency comb generation based on nanophotonic approaches. He is expected to build up a theoretical model which simulates side-peak generation by the fast modulation of photonic crystals, study the cleanroom fabrication of nanophotonic cavities, and design an experimental setup for the time resolved measurement of the light pulses. He has done his work properly and has recently published two conference proceeding papers , one in IET Optoelectronics and the other in IEEE Xplore. His presentation at IEEE 3M-nano international conference has been awarded as one out of three best student papers. He is now summarizing the results and planing to submit as a journal paper.
