Lead Research Organisation: Queen's University Belfast
Department Name: Sch of Hist, Anthrop, Philos & Politics

Abstract

In partnership with Belfast City Council and engagement with the local community this project aims to present the multi layered social history of not only the Templemore baths in Inner East Belfast but also the surrounding area. This shall be done by looking at how the institution and local community has changed over the past hundred years. The main themes would include but are not limited to social capital, community, memory, deindustrialisation and heritage commercial repurposing.

Results and Impact 25-30 people attended a forty minute lecture I gave on one of my thesis chapters around childhood and adolescent memories of the Templemore Baths. This talk sparked interesting questions and discussion afterwards which led to increased interest in the baths regeneration project and their usage. Subsequently, people asked me to keep them informed of further events I hold and the pop up exhibition I am hoping to open in the coming months.
