Atmospheric work: a study of leadership of NHS surgical teams

Lead Research Organisation: CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Department Name: Cardiff Business School

Abstract

The aim of the PhD project is to develop a theoretical framework of how distributed leadership can facilitate learning and patient safety/service improvements in inter-professional surgical teams in the NHS, with debriefing as the focal point for learning. The findings can address challenges set out by the ESRC and in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Green Paper (2017): it will inform skills requirements nationally, organisational and/or technological changes, ways to improve productivity and create new training initiatives suitable for provision to overseas healthcare providers.
