Description A more refined and elegant formulation of a quantum information quantity in a gravity system was developed.
Exploitation Route The formula developed allows easier application and interpretation for other researcher.
Sectors Other

Title Renormalized Entanglement Entropy as Topological Invariant
Description A method developed is to relate renormalized entanglement entropy in Holographic system to topological and curvature invariant, namely the Euler characteristic, Willmore's functional, Weyl curvature etc.
Type Of Material Data analysis technique
Year Produced 2020
Provided To Others? No
Impact This method demonstrates the possibility of measuring global information structure using elegant geometrical and topological techniques. It can also reproduce and derive the renormalized first law of entanglement entropy.

Description 2020 ICTP Summer School on Superstring Theory and Related Topics
Form Of Engagement Activity Participation in an activity, workshop or similar
Part Of Official Scheme? No
Geographic Reach International
Primary Audience Postgraduate students
Results and Impact The School on Superstring Theory and Related Topics provides pedagogical treatment of these subjects through lectures by some of the world's top string theorists. The activity is intended for theoretical physicists or mathematicians with knowledge of quantum field theory, general relativity and string theory. Throughout the school, I engaged in tutorial to discuss the current state of art research in my field of research.

Description Festival of Doctoral Research
Form Of Engagement Activity A talk or presentation
Part Of Official Scheme? No
Geographic Reach Local
Primary Audience Postgraduate students
Results and Impact The festival of doctoral research showcase invited the whole university and general public to come to learn about the doctoral research done in Southampton across many disciplines. In particular, I presented a poster on my research area, Holography and String Theory. There were positive responses from wide range of audience from the vice chancellor to school student, most people showed interested in my poster and had illuminating conversation on ideas in Physics.

Description Masterclass for STAG lecture
Form Of Engagement Activity Participation in an activity, workshop or similar
Part Of Official Scheme? No
Geographic Reach Local
Primary Audience Schools
Results and Impact around 50 GCSE and A Level students attended the masterclass before STAG public to participate in interactive learning activities. These activities aimed to introduce the students some advance ideas in Physics and how research is done in Theoretical Physics. The students were motivated and engaged in the activities, following by in depth and advance question and discussion. The feedback from the schools was very positive, several teachers and students asked for extension work linking to the activities in the classes and some very high ability students saying that these positively impacted on their subject choices i.e. they are more likely to consider continuing with Physics.

Results and Impact More than 350 people attended the 2018 Stag public lecture given by Nobel laureate Rainer Weiss. I presented my research in the poster session before and after the lecture to wide range of audience including general public, GCSE & A Level students, professors and the lecturer. From the conversation in the poster session it led to increase interest in my area of research, some discussion with member of the general public continued to weeks after the lecture via email.

Primary Audience Professional Practitioners
Results and Impact I attended the QIST 2019 workshop hosted in the University of Kyoto. Throughout the workshop I discussed with many participants from research institutions around the world about the current research in String Theory and Quantum Information. I also presented my poster about my research on renormalized first law of entanglement entropy in the poster session to all the participants including significant figures in the community. In addition to raising interests on my research in the community, I gained knowledge and insights from many conversation with other participants.
