Social networks and well-being in later life: understanding the role of neighbourhood

Lead Research Organisation: University of Southampton
Department Name: School of Social Sciences

Abstract

This PhD aims to investigate the relationship between social networks and well-being in later life (60 years plus) and how this relationship may be mediated by the neighbourhood. By making use of unique longitudinal data, the research will also shed light on changes in social networks over time. In particular, it will examine how social networks may be disrupted, or enhanced, by a residential move in later life, where that move results in a change in neighbourhood.
