Spin qubits in photonic circuits

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The project will involve an investigation of coupling of photons to spin qubits in nano-photonic environments. A particular goal will be to exploit the chiral coupling effect in which spin qubits couple to only one propagation direction within a nano-photonics waveguide. In order to achieve this, techniques for initialisation of electron or hole spins in quantum dots embedded within photonic structures will have to be developed. Once this is achieved, it will then be possible to investigate the fidelity of transfer of photon direction to electron spin and vice versa, with the ultimate goal of demonstrating spin-spin coupling via directional exchange of photons.
