Insects as intermediate "nutrient concentrators" for sustainable animal feeds

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: Sch of Biosciences

Abstract

The project fits within the BBSRC's Agriculture and Food Security priority area.

The overall aim is to investigate whether the efficiency and sustainability of insect production can be enhanced as well as determining the effects of feeds containing insects on production animal (poultry) growth.

For these studies we will use Tenebrio molitor larvae (mealworms), as we have established experimental protocols for this commonly used commercial species (Tetlow et al 2016 & 2017).
