Optical components for next generation quantum technology systems

Lead Research Organisation: University of Southampton
Department Name: Optoelectronics Research Ctr (closed)

Abstract

This project aims to develop the optical technology platforms that will enable the scalable realisation of quantum technology. Firstly this will involve the development of the integrated optical fibre technology for low loss waveguides. The second area of development is to investigate bespoke nonlinear optical components based on periodically poled nonlinear materials to generate blue and near-UV wavelengths for quantum applications.

Description Developed methodologies for testing our integrated optics fabrication steps, developed an optical technology for sensing hydrocarbons and also made progress towards the generation of a UV source required for quantum computing.
Exploitation Route Methodologies developed may be applied in the optics fabrication industry whom are looking to increase yield and performance of such devices.
