Abstract
This project will investigate a new way to image the phase of the electron wave function using the method of near-field ptychography, with diverse applications in magnetic and electric field measurement and low-dose imaging. In the initial stages the student will gain an appreciation of the theory and practice of ptychography using experiments on the optical bench. He will then progress to experiments on the University's aberration-corrected R005 microscope, gathering data to validate the optical bench model, before specialising in either the practical or the algorithmic side of the project depending on student preference.
