Investigation into the feasibility and potential of a multi-purpose wheeled robot

Lead Research Organisation: Imperial College London
Department Name: Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Abstract

Canonical ICE (internal combustion engine) powered vehicles have been at the forefront of a myriad of human activities and socio-economic contexts for over a century now, however it is only relatively recently that electric-or hybrid-propulsion and vehicle automation have come into the limelight. The field of robotics lends itself perfectly to complement the above revolution, in light of its astounding ability to allow previously unthinkable processes, functions and tasks to be executed with notable ease and efficiency. An important factor to consider is that any multi-purpose wheeled robot is effectively a complex dynamical system at heart, in its fundamental layer. The project aims and objectives will be updated as the research moves forward and the literature research expanded. In summary, this is an investigation into the feasibility of a wheeled robot and its potential applications, conceived as a dynamical system to be understood, analyzed and controlled.
