INERSKIN II - Thermal and Mechanical Response of Facades to Fire

Lead Research Organisation: Imperial College London
Department Name: Mechanical Engineering

Abstract

The aims of this study are: 1) Identify the possible failure mechanisms of modern facades in fire, by reviewing worldwide occurrences of façade fires in high-rise buildings; 2) Choose the mechanisms of the thermal or mechanical response associated to the highest risk and develop an understanding of them via the experimental data available currently in the literature; 3) Fill the gaps in this understanding by developing numerical studies with appropriate pyrolysis and heat transfer models; 4) Inform the design process by providing guidance on these mechanisms.
