Aircraft Installation Effects
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Southampton
Department Name: Faculty of Engineering & the Environment
Abstract
Airframe noise sources are modified by the presence of the fuselage, fairings, high-lift devices etc. Also the local flow velocity changes due to the circulation induced by the wing. Currently these installation effects are not fully understood. Even more crucially, is developing the tools and capabilities to predict them on future aircraft types.
The outcome of the project will be a more fundamental understanding of the underlying mechanisms responsible for installation effects. This PhD studentship will provide a good opportunity to work with one of the largest aerospace companies in the world, and explore relevant problems in the aerospace industry.
