Abstract

This candidate proposes a comparative study of attempts to develop new computing curricula in the UK and Singapore. Focusing especially on how (and with what practice and motivations) teachers implement these new curricula, the candidate is especially interested in how the curricula may produce new forms of digital inequality, especially in relation to gender. Drawing on a mixed-methods, comparative case study approach, the candidate intends to make new theoretical contributions, moving away from Human Capital Theory in how we conceive of education, to focus instead on agency and experience in the classroom.
