Targeting regulatory elements underlying astrocyte-neuron interactions in human

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge

Abstract

I am particularly interested in working with patient specific disease models, especially more complex multilineage
constructs, making this project with Dr Lakatos my preferred choice. This interest was cultivated during my time in the
Tedesco Lab at UCL, where we are creating multilineage muscle constructs to model skeletal muscle diseases. This
project would allow me to further investigate the potential of using organoids for translational research, which is
particularly important to me, as I find the translational aspect of projects highly motivating. My master's module, 'The
Neurobiology of Neurodegenerative Diseases', has developed my fascination with the complexity and different levels of
interaction that take place in diseases such as ALS, and I think increasing our understanding of the interactions and
progression on an inter-cellular level will be invaluable in moving our understanding forward.
