Asymptotic safety for quantum gravity and beyond

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sussex

Abstract

An ongoing challenge relates to the understanding of the quantum nature of gravity, and how the
gravitational force fits into the otherwise well-understood fundamental particle interactions. The
asymptotic safety conjecture offers a promising direction for this, where substantial progress has been
achieved in 4d quantum gravity and quantum gauge theories in recent years.
In this project, the interplay of quantum gravity and matter is investigated using modern renormalisation
group methods at strong coupling in combination with perturbation theory at weak coupling.
Of particular interest are models with Ricci tensor interactions and variants thereof, and extensions of the
Standard Model with and without quantised gravity.
