Stellar haloes and tidal streams

Abstract

My project is focused on the faint outskirts of galaxies, namely stellar haloes and tidal streams. The main aim is to use the fossil record embedded in these structures to work out the accretion events that happened in the past. Currently, I am analysing the stellar halos of around galaxies of the M81 Group. I am using photometric data taken with the Hyper Suprime Cam on the ground-based Subaru telescope. By using the resolved stellar populations technique, I'm measuring distributions and metallicities of stars in the halo. Moreover, I'm also handling Hubble Space Telescope data for measuring completeness of my results. In near future, searches for undiscovered dwarf galaxies by using Hyper Suprime Cam data are planned during my project. Moreover, I will be analysing stellar halos of dwarf galaxies from past surveys done with the Hubble Space Telescope.
