Accretion Processes in Nova Systems Across a Range of Stellar Populations

Abstract

Understanding the accretion processes with classical and recurrent nova systems is key to predicting the long-term evolution of these phenomena, any fundamental differences between them, and their ultimate fate. However, still very little is known about the inter-eruption behaviour of these systems, particular those beyond the Milky Way. Additionally, the interaction between the accretion disk and ejecta may provide the mechanism behind the recently uncovered gamma-ray emission from these systems. This PhD project will explore accretion in novae, starting from well-studied Galactic systems to the populations within M31 and M33.
