Nano-precipitation evolution during industrial coiling and annealing operations

Lead Research Organisation: University of Warwick
Department Name: WMG

Abstract

The aim of this research project is to investigate nano-precipitation in cold-rolled and annealed steels (primarily Nb/Ti alloys) to deepen the understanding of the inter-relationship between recovery, recrystallization and the precipitation state during annealing. This will be achieved using in-situ/ interrupted microscopy-based experimental studies that are complemented by parallel modelling activities.

This is a Tata iCASE that has already had EPSRC approval.

UPDATE

The project will use a novel series of steels which are cold worked and annealed to achieve targeted properties for automotive use, where a combination of strength, formability and toughness is required.
The aim of the project is to investigate nano-precipitation in the cold rolled and annealed states to deepen the understanding of the inter-relationship between recovery, recrystallisation and precipitation during annealing.
Characterisation of the steels during annealing will be achieved using in-situ /interrupted microscopy based experimental studies that are complimented by parallel modelling activities.
