Abstract
A central topic in number theory is the conjectural correspondence between Galois representations and automorphic forms, the most spectacular application to date being Wiles's proof of Fermat's last theorem. The student will tackle problems related to the Taylor-Wiles method and its recent generalisations, key tools in investigating the congruences that occur on both sides of the correspondence.
