Kinetic Inductance Detectors for Astronomy
Lead Research Organisation:
Durham University
Department Name: Physics
Abstract
This project will involve the development of Kinetic Inductance Detectors for use in Astronomy. KIDs are a novel superconducting detector that can measure the arrival time and the energy of a photon. We are developing them for use as an astronomical spectrograph. This project will involve a range of studies including lab-based development and computer simulations of the performance of the detectors. There will also be an element of analysing astronomical observations using KIDs.
