Evidence-based advocacy: A mixed-method study for the prevention of Obstetric Violence in northwest Argentina

Lead Research Organisation: UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON
Department Name: Institute for Global Health

Abstract

My proposal has been conceptualised as a response to a critical period of change in the reproductive rights field in Latin America, in which women's movements have reached the political agenda after years of advocating for women's rights. It covers the violence perpetrated by health providers against women during antenatal care, delivery and postpartum care. During my project, I will use structural equation modelling first, to investigate factors associated with the perpetration of obstetric violence (OV), and second, through using the modelling in participatory action research with women and healthcare providers, to advance understandings of how evidence-based activism may address and prevent this form of gender-based violence. I will take a mixed-method approach combining advanced statistic and participatory methodology to advocate for the co-construction of grassroots solutions that reflect non-mainstream positions and result in an improvement of institutional obstetric healthcare.
