The legality and morality of the EU-Turkey agreement towards the Human Rights of the Syrian Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Turkey and Greece.

Lead Research Organisation: Swansea University
Department Name: College of Law

Abstract

The international obligations which govern individual countries' responses to the 'refugee crises' are the subject of intense public debate. This research uses the EU-Turkey agreement as a case study for the analysis of the legality and morality of the EU response. The research draws on socio-legal methods to identify the legal issues and the how these legal frameworks are experienced in wider society. The research will be enriched with interviews with key actors from international refugee networks and NGOs to provide a detailed empirical foundation for policy reform.
