Safe carbenoid chemistry with sulfoxonium ylides
Lead Research Organisation:

Department Name: Chemistry
Abstract
The project will develop the current scope of metal-catalysed reactions of sulfoxonium ylides. Sulfoxonium ylides are safer surrogates to diazo compounds that are to date the most versatile and main source of metal carbenes for the synthesis of organic molecules relevant to the development of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and materials. However, the chemistry of sulfoxonium ylides is underdeveloped and we must establish how to improve their reactivity to fulfil their potential in organic synthesis. The project will focus on palladium and nickel-catalysed cross-coupling reactions for the formation of carbon-carbon bonds, following on our recent work published in Org. Lett. 2019, 21, 296-299.
