Small Antenna and Array Synthesis on Installed Platforms

Abstract

Executive Summary

The main objective is to develop small antennas and arrays with enhanced performance on installed platforms for communication, radar and surveillance applications. There is increasing demand for more compact, lightweight and lower cost antennas for current and future wireless systems. To meet these demands, novel synthesis methods and techniques are required to improve antenna performance with potentially great impact on system sensitivity, bandwidth, spatial coverage, interference mitigation and directional accuracy. Compact antennas on existing platforms tend to be electrically small; this is more pronounced at lower frequencies where antenna size could be a fraction of the wavelengths. Current compact antennas exhibit performance limitations which could be addressed with this proposal.
