Wire based additive manufacture of novel titanium alloys and alloy alloy mixed structures

Lead Research Organisation: Cranfield University
Department Name: Sch of Aerospace, Transport & Manufact

Abstract

This project will investigate the properties of novel and mixed titanium alloys deposited using wire based additive manufacture. The project will involve studying and developing the deposition process for these materials, characterising them in terms of microstructure and mechanical or other properties. The deposition process may include a cold work step. The project will also investigate different ways of combining the different alloys, layer by layer, skin and core or different zones within structures. FEM modelling may be used to predict performance of alloy alloy structures and components so that they can be optimised in terms of performance. An alloy alloy demonstration part will be produced. The project is an Icase award sponsored by BAES
