Characterising Exoplanet Atmospheres

Lead Research Organisation: Queen's University Belfast
Department Name: Sch of Mathematics and Physics

Abstract

The aim of the project is to investigate the nature of exoplanet atmospheres using a variety of techniques, including transmission spectroscopy, secondary eclipse photometry and phase-curve studies. We will take advantage of new instruments that have recently become available (e.g. ESPRESSO) or coming online (e.g. CRIRES+). We will also look to further develop and improve upon observational and analysis techniques which will allow us to improve our sensitivity and detection limits in order to detect a wider variety chemical species in the exoplanet atmospheres, and thereby gaining a better insight into chemical composition.
