What drives state-insurgent interactions in civil war

Lead Research Organisation: London School of Economics and Political Science
Department Name: Development Studies Institute

Abstract

This exploratory research aims to unpack the relationship between states and armed groups in civil war seeking to understand both cooperation and violence. In civil war, the assumption is that armed groups fight against states. However, in practice there is a broad spectrum of cooperation that takes place. This PhD project aims to understand these relationships by carrying out a cross-case comparison of three conflict zones in Myanmar.
