Abstract
Summary (no more than 500 words) A comparative historical investigation of ideological change in the economic policies of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and the Austrian Socialist Party (SPÖ), between approximately 1964 and 1991. This provisional proposed project would seek to investigate how and why these two parties, whose ideologies had been explicitly built on intervening in the economy to permanently reduce the power of capital, shifted by the 1990s towards polices that sought to accommodate and support capital and the capitalist economy.
