Preparing for leptonic CP violation with the DUNE experiment

Lead Research Organisation: UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The amount of CP violation in the leptonic sector is one of the mots interesting new measurements in the (nu) standard model of particle physics, and may be related to the long standing mystery of where is all of the antimatter in the Universe. The DUNE experiment is a next-generation long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment which is designed to measure the CP violation in the lepton sector. This PhD studentship is paving the way for that measurement, both by characterising the purity of the DUNE prototype detectors and by using high-pressure argon gas time-projection chambers to identify the needs that must be fulfilled by the DUNE near detector. As such this studentship will be essential preparation for the future DUNE experiment.
