Investigation of phage-host and human cell interactions via the biochemical and structural analysis of host cell receptors

Lead Research Organisation: University of Warwick
Department Name: School of Life Sciences

Abstract

Bacteriophages are viruses that target their host bacteria with great specificity and can therefore be used as therapeutics, in a process known as phage therapy. In order to understand better the mechanisms of phage therapy, we need to investigate in more details the phage-host and human cells interaction.
In this project, using phage biology, human cell biology, confocal microscopy, biochemistry and structural biology, we wish to investigate further the interactions between phage-host and human cells, with final goal the better understanding of the factors that are of importance in the success of phage therapy.
