Systems Engineering for Quantum Technologies

Lead Research Organisation: University of Strathclyde
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

Advancing the miniaturisation, portability and robustness of stand-alone quantum devices is a central aim of the UK Quantum Technologies Programme. This effort is key to the creation and demonstration of the usefulness of next-generation, field-deployable precision measurement devices based on atoms.
This project will investigate the development of complete atomic systems, characterising the performance of devices for preparing and interrogating atom-based quantum sensors. The work will integrate subcomponents and characterise the complete system performance and noise. Towards the end of the project the aim will be to take developed technologies out of the lab for field testing.
