Capturing child attention: Are perceptually rich stimuli the best way to aid number learning?

Lead Research Organisation: Loughborough University
Department Name: Mathematics Education Centre

Abstract

Explore how the perceptual richness of examples used to introduce number to young children impacts their learning. As part of this I hope to explore the best placement, usage, and instruction to accompany concrete and abstract examples. I will use experimental and observational research methods with young children and adults. The findings of my research will contribute towards clearer guidance for parents, teachers and publishers regarding how best to help children in early number learning.
