Negotiating Recovery: practitioner and service user experiences of mental health care trajectories in Wales

Lead Research Organisation: CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Department Name: Sch of Social Sciences

Abstract

To explore the ways in which practitioners and service users experience the system of secondary
mental health care in the context of recovery based legislation and policy within Wales. Building on a
national piece of work that looked at care and treatment planning quality across Wales (that the
applicant was part of), this work seeks to look at how practitioners and service users interact with
and within the mental health care 'system' and how care is negotiated between them. The study will
use observation and dialogic approaches to explore factors that impact on recovery and care
trajectories and communication between different actors.
