New methods for vibro-acoustic performance prediction in complex systems

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Engineering

Abstract

This project will be concerned with predicting the vibration and acoustic performance of complex engineering systems, with the aim of enabling robust and efficient design. Acceptable performance is required over a wide frequency range, and this requires the study of high frequency vibration, where the performance can be sensitive to manufacturing uncertainties and nonlinearities. The drive towards light weight and energy efficient design is making these problems more pressing, and applications include automotive, marine, and aerospace systems. The work will combine concepts in statistical mechanics with engineering analysis to develop new computer-based techniques
