Stereoselective nucleoside fluorination methodology for the development of next-generation oligonucleotide therapeutics

Lead Research Organisation: University of Strathclyde
Department Name: Pure and Applied Chemistry

Abstract

This project aims to develop new methodology to install fluorinated groups at defined positions within the ribose sugar of nucleosides. After synthesis of these modified nucleosides, they will then be incorporated into an oligonucleotide. Subsequently, these oligonucleotides will be screened for their Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic properties, such as affinity and selectivity to a target RNA sequence, metabolic stability and cell uptake.
