Sustainable Manuafacturing for Li-ion, Na-ion batteries

Lead Research Organisation: Swansea University
Department Name: College of Engineering

Abstract

The PhD will research different manufacturing methods for solution processed battery manufacture. In particular focus will be given to solids state electrolytes such as NASICON. Near Infra-Red Sintering, using a machine specifically developed for high temperature processing (greater than 1000'C) and uniquely designed for Swansea University with advanced cooling methods and options to run in an inert environment will be used as a method of controlling secondary phase formation during NASICON formation by reducing the time at temperature. The project will undertake physical and electrochemical characterization of the solid state electrolytes using XRD, EPSD, SEM, EDS and impedance characterization methods.
