Abstract

This research project pivots around two further inter-related research questions:
- To what extent did Victorian tourists regard landscapes to be visceral, multi-sensory spaces of engagement?
- How does this relate to the ways in which tourists were expected to engage with these landscapes, as presented in contemporary guidebooks?
