Investigation of Fatigue Performance of Additively Manufactured Freeform Components via Non-destructive Metrology
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Huddersfield
Department Name: Sch of Computing and Engineering
Abstract
The project aims to investigate the fatigue performance of high-value-added freeform components produced by additive manufacturing (AM), such as turbine blades and heat exchangers. The fatigue behaviours of these AM components with complex geometries are highly related to surface topography and internal defects resulting from the AM process. Non-destructive metrology techniques (X-ray computed tomography and focus variation microscopy) will be utilised to measure these characteristics and allow a Finite Element Model to be developed for the prediction of the fatigue performance.
