Abstract

Throughout my undergraduate degree and time in a research group I have maintained a proactive and self-motivated attitude to achieve set goals, ranging from learning analytical software to creating overall working strategies to fulfil targets. I am capable of following standard operating procedures as well as creating my own methodologies based upon literature and test research hypotheses. I can successfully collaborate with individuals of varying expertise and have the ability to communicate complex scientific ideas in simple terms. Through my dissertation project I have learnt how to effectively identify and solve problems and show flexibility in order to meet deadlines.
As a female scientist, I intend to lead by example and continue to excel within the field by facing new challenges and taking on every opportunity for development. I will contribute to the resolution of anthropogenic issues, specifically developing robust, sustainable packaging as a viable alternative to plastics. The detrimental effect plastic has on the environment and subsequently on human well-being is impossible to ignore. I have the ambition to utilise my drive and build upon existing skills to address this global crisis. I want to establish myself in the next generation of scientists and build a more sustainable future.
