Abstract
Recent studies of the magnetic fields of very low mass stars shows a strange and so far unexplained behaviour. Some have strong, simple magnetic fields, and some have much weaker, complex, solar-like field magnetic fields. We do not fully understand why this difference occurs, and how it relates to the fully convective mass limit.
This project will study the structure and dynamics of the stellar magnetic fields of low mass stars, making use of Solar magnetograms to model the coronal structure of young Solar-type stars. With this, the physics of the corona, winds, and prominences can be explored, both in relation to stellar cycles, and to what extent such stars impact orbiting planets.
