Abstract
My PhD project brings an innovative perspective to the field of adaptation and gender studies. By examining selected works by Margaret Atwood and Toni Morrison alongside their adaptations on screen and stage, I will argue for the possibility of analysing adaptations as a process and a product, considering it from an artistic and a social point of view. Specifically, I will discuss the importance that adaptation has in the life and production of these two authors focusing in particular on issues related to gender and race representation in their novels and later dramatisations.
