Measurements with dibosons at the ATLAS experiment
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Sheffield
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy
Abstract
The project will concentrate on preparing for the Run-3 data taking with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider and exploiting the data taken in Run-2 and Run-3 to conduct measurements suited to constrain Beyond The Standard Model Theories. The student will work on the topics of electron identification and reconstruction as well as on measurements involving dibosons.
The student will start working within the egamma CP group where he will work on optimising the electron ID menus for offline identification, as well as two menus for HLT (w/ and w/o use of GSF). In addition, work benefiting a future implementation of a multi-bkg classification will be performed. Specifically, studies of the modelling of shower shape variables of electrons from heavy-flavour decays will be performed.
Based on the improvements on the electron selection efficiencies, he will proceed to apply these to measurements with dibosons in the final state, that are suited to constrain Effective Field Theory operators in global combinations of these operators.
