A theranostic agent for cardiac disease

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: Faculty of Engineering

Abstract

The project is largely interdisciplinary focusing on the synthesis of a theranostic agent for cardiac disease. The current focus of this project is to use iron-oxide nanoparticles for diagnostic purposes with a therapeutic angle to be decided. Currently we are looking at distancing a fluorophore from a gadolinium imaging complex to then be applied to iron-oxide nanoparticles for a BRET fluorescent study with selectins (a group of cell adhesion molecules that are expressed in cardiac disease).
