Post-Brexit (re)constructions of identity and citizenship amongst Hungarian migrants

Lead Research Organisation: University of Oxford
Department Name: Sch of Anthropology & Museum Ethnography

Abstract

In my PhD project, I intend to focus on Hungarian immigrants in the United Kingdom to
examine how they intertwine opportunities, values and visions embodied by their national
(Hungarian), supranational (European) and local (British) 'citizenship' to realign migration goals
to the changing structural conditions post-Brexit. I intend to advocate the study of migrants as
subjects entangled in a complex web of rights and obligations through which the respective
states exert an influence on them and through which they exert an influence on the respective
states.
